The “Forwards (hacia adelante)” screenplay revolves around María José Muskant, a woman living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, who feels stuck in her current life.

Dissatisfied with her job, her relationships, and feeling devoid of purpose, María José longs to take hold of her fate and gain the strength to change her path.

The writing playlist whilst writing “Forwards (hacia adelante)” is listed beneath. It’s a pity I hadn’t discovered Facundo Cabral prior to beginning and getting wired into this tale. At the moment he’s without question my favourite Argentinian artist. If you’re unfamiliar with him, my Argentine anthem is a song of his, “No Soy De Aquí, Ni Soy De Allá.” The live version from “Grandes Exitos” being the version of choice.

Forwards (hacia adelante) Buenos Aires

Story Inspiration

The inspiration for “Forwards (hacia adelante)” came from my own desires to flee and leave, impulses suggesting that I didn’t belong where I was living and circumstances that I couldn’t control holding me in place.

The story gained many nuances and developed further during the worst time in my life.

After floating around as a loose idea, with vague points in which I wanted it written (the pacing, the distortion of time etc.) and the characters and locations being Buenos Aires and Montevideo. I informed my mother about it. Shortly afterwards I lost her and found myself in a desperate need to leave. Buenos Aires and Montevideo became the destinations I was drawn to. Buenos Aires for her connection to it and Montevideo for the story’s originally outlined destination.

Forwards (hacia adelante) Buenos Aires - Barrio Norte

During my time in Buenos Aires I explored the city extensively, and as a result exaggerations from what I saw have been woven into the tale’s tapestry.
